Glueing down the upper and lining

Once the toe puffs were reasonably dry, starting over the toes, the upper was glued and pleated down. Then, in turn, each side of the shoe had the tacks taken out before being glued first under the lining, and then the upper, pulling tightly and firmly to make sure that the leather was taut over the last.
